Kathy Alene Todd Waters Capers

Capers

Kathy Alene Todd Waters Capers, 62, of Killeen, Texas, formerly of Waycross, passed away peacefully Monday, September 15, 2025, at her home in Killeen.

She was born December 18, 1962 in Memorial Hospital in Waycross to Sampie Linton and Georgia Lee Jones Todd. She has lived in numerous places due to her father’s service in the U.S. Army. She lived in Georgia, Florida, Texas, Kansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, Iserlohn, Holzwickede and Mainz in what was then West Germany (now Germany). She was a 1980 graduate of Fort Campbell High School in Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

She dedicated more than 20 years of her life to serving others as a waitress at Shoney’s and Denny’s where her friendly smile and caring spirit touched countless lives. She later spent seven years with Live Oak Manufactured Homes as part of their finishing team, where her strong work ethic and attention to detail left a lasting impression on both her coworkers and the families she helped serve.

Beyond her professional life, she found her greatest joy caring for her family. She lovingly served as live in “Nana” for granddaughter, Anaya for six years and for the past four years, she continued in that role for her youngest grandchildren, Cyle and Allison.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Edward Benjamin Sr. and Georgia Lee Jones and her paternal grandparents, Sampie Lee Todd and Alene Cato Todd Fulford and Kenneth R. “Kennie” Fulford Sr. and by her niece, Evann Todd.

Survivors include her husband of two years, Calvin Capers, Killeen, TX; her daughters, Marsha Waters, Raleigh, NC, Renay Murray (Paulo), Frankfurt, Germany, Carla Waters, Harker Heights, TX and Crystal Baker, Rincon; her stepchildren, DeAndre, Emma, Jewel and Calvin Tavon Capers, all of Killeen; her grandchildren, Kaila VerDuft Redding (Fletcher), Anaya Dunning, Paola Murray, Cyle Smith, Allison Smith and Elias Capers; her parents, Sampie Linton and Georgia Lee Jones Todd, Waycross; her siblings, Michael Todd (Holley), Gregory Todd (Darlene) and Karen Todd Gray (Donnie), all of Waycross Randall Todd (Jay), Jacksonville, FL and Dianna Ndede and Shamika Monday, both of Killeen; the father of her children, Carl Waters; a special friend from high school days, Brenda Voight Benton, Franklin, KY and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Kathy’s wish was to be cremated and have a home visitation in Texas and to have a memorial service back home in Georgia.

A graveside memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 11, from the High Bluff Cemetery in Brantley County with her cousin, Elder Jason Deal, officiating.

Musical selections “Amazing Grace” and “Angel Band” were offered by Hoboken Sacred Harp and the congregation.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Southeast Cancer Unit, P.O. Box 667, Blackshear, Georgia 31516 or the cancer society of your choice.
