Pierce County’s Lady Bear volleyball team enters the Class AA 32team tournament as the 10th seed in the field.
The Lady Bears (19-21) closed out the last week of regular season winning three of four matches the loss coming in Saturday’s (October 11) Region 3-AA tournament played at Woodville-Tompkins High School. Sixth-ranked Savannah Arts Academy served as the host school.
PCHS opened up the week with a sweep Tuesday, October 7 of Class 5A host Brunswick and Class 4A Ware County.
Pierce County beat the Lady Pirates 25-21, 9-25, 16-14 for their first victory in four tries. Brunswick won each of the first three encounters 2-0.
The Lady Bears followed with a 25-12, 25-10 decision over Ware County. PCHS beat the Lady Gators 2-0 back on August 19.
PCHS opened up the region’s bestof- five format knocking off Appling County 25-18, 25-19, 25-22 in the semifinals. The two teams split matches during the regular season with the Lady Pirates notching a 2-1 victory August 21. Pierce County posted a 2-0 victory September 13.
The Lady Bears were within one set of beating sixth-ranked Savannah Arts Academy in the finals. PCHS won the first two sets 25-19, 25-19. The sixth-ranked Lady Panthers followed with victories of 27-25, 25-15, 15-4 in the fifth-set tie-breaker.
Pierce County, needing one win to reach the 20-victory plateau for the fourth consecutive season, hosted 23rd-seed Butler (6-8) Monday (October 14) in the first round.
The winner advances to play the victor between seventh-seed Franklin County (25-14), ranked eighth in the last regular season poll, and 26th-seed East Jackson (10-26) Saturday, October 18.
Savannah Arts Academy (15-25), seeded fifth, is hosting 28th-seed Hardaway (7-13) of Columbus. Appling County (24-8), the 14th seed, matches up with 19th-seed Jordan (8-5). Cook (12-18), a 24th seed, visits seventh-ranked and ninth-seed Davison Fine Arts (22-19).
