(The Patterson City Council discussed and/or voted on the following items during their monthly meeting Thursday, October 9. ) No meeting: The meeting was canceled since a quorum was not present to conduct business. However, Mayor Dedi Thomas still covered all the items on the agenda. In addition to Thomas, Councilmen Jim Echols and Brian Herrin were present. Councilmen Jake Echols, Chris Mock and David Smith were not present.
Millage rate: Mayor Thomas reported the city would have a called meeting at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23 to set the millage. The city proposes setting its millage at 7.9072 for the coming year, a decrease of about eight hundredths of a tenth less than last year. Since there is no tax increase, no public hearings will be required. The public notice and five year history are included in today’s edition.
Facility improvements: Mayor Thomas and Public Works Superintendent Tyler Stokes both reported on the construction of new tennis courts at the city park and lighting improvements for them. Both the mayor and public works superintendent also reported on the progress of moving all city equipment from the old public works facility to the city’s new public works facility at the old Georgia Forestry Commission station on Georgia Highway 32.
Department reports: Police Chief Nick Strickland gave the police report. Dixon reported the department responded to 32 calls in September including 18 calls for service. The department made 11 traffic stops and issued five citations and investigated three accidents. Public Works Superintendent Stokes reported a routine month for his department. Stokes also reported the fire department responded to 11 fire calls and three medical calls during the month of September. City Clerk Laura Kate Dixon had nothing to report.
