JESUP — Hazel Lee Johns, 76, of Jesup died Saturday, October 11, 2025.

The Wayne County native was a former CNA and enjoyed sewing, att ending church and fishing in her younger years. Cooking was her love language to her family and friends.

Her husband, Kermit “Lamar” Johns, preceded her in death; along with the father of her children, Alvin “Lloyd” Johns; her parents, Victoria Pearl and Carl Story; a daughter, Margaret Ann Heathcock; a great grandson, Sampson Spurlock; three brothers, J.L., Kirby, and Lavern Story; and five sisters, Leona Maxwell, Ollie-May Johnson, Mary Ann Browning, Lucille Cole and Syble McGlamory.

Survivors are two daughters, Linda (Roy) Crummey, Jr. of Jesup and Charlene (Darrell) Smith of Nahunta; a sister, Earlene Prilgrim; seven grandchildren, LeeAnn (David) Wilkes, David Crummey, Curtis (Lila) Crummey Rebecca (Joey) Spurlock, Edward Johns, D.J. (Marissah) Smith and Heather Smith; 13 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; three special people who she didn’t give life to, but gave love to, Monica Herrin, Sherri Johnson and Robert Manning.

A funeral service will be held today (Wednesday, October 15, 2025) at 11 a.m., at Rinehart Chapel with Rev. Chuck Allen officiating.

A private interment will be in the Bachlott Cemetery in Brantley County.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup is in charge of arrangements.
