HAZLEHURST — Brantley County’s Lady Herons and Herons cross-country teams competed here Thursday in the Three Rivers Cross-Country Classic hosted by Jeff Davis.
The Lady Herons placed ninth in the 13-team girls meet finishing with 263 points. Bleckley County dominated the field scoring just 19 points with five runners finishing eighth or better and all seven members insided the top 13 spots.
The Lady Royals were followed by Frederica Academy (94), Glynn Academy (100), Coffee (104), Brunswick (124), host Jeff Davis (171), Camden County (189), Vidalia (217), Brantley County (263), PCHS (265), Appling County (265), Bacon County (268) and ACE Charter (368).
The Lady Herons were paced by Julia Miller’s 27th-place finish in the field of 102 runners with a time of 22:57.70. The winning time was 17:50.
Miller was followed by Jaelynn Evans (54th; 25:01), Klara Barnes (61st; 25:35.60),Linzi Parker (78th; 26:37.20), Delaney Lloyd (83rd; 27:11.30), Aubree Purvis (93rd; 29:15.80) and Mariah Wittrien (100th; 31:50.20).
The Herons finished 10th in the 18-team boys’ meet behind Bleckley County’s winning performance to sweep the event. The Royals, who placed all five runners inside the Top 10, totaled 23 points for the runaway victory.
Following Bleckley County were Vidalia (126), Jeff Davis (136), Coffee (137), Glynn Academy (161), Toombs County (178), Camden County (179), Brunswick (195), Worth County (257) and Brantley County (268) in the top 10 spots.
The rest of the field included Berrien (285), Frederica Academy (307), PCHS (322), Tattnall County (334), Wayne County (361), Appling County (420), ACE Charter (434) and Bacon County (551).
Hayze Evans led the Herons, who had four runners post sub-20minute times, copping a 12th-place finish in the field of 137 runners with a time of 17:40.20. The winning time was 16:06.
Hayes was followed by Brayden Middleton (47th; 19:23.10), Grant Middleton (56th; 19:39.50), Max Herrin (58th; 19:41.10), Evinrude Green (102nd; 21:27), Jayden Simmons (105th; 21:39) and Carter Lentz (123rd; 22:59.90).
Cayson Lentz and Bryan Chevalier participated in the jayvee event. Lentz finished 55th in the field of 64 runners with a time of 26:51.70 with Chevalier 60th with a time of 28:31.70. The winning time was 18:18.40.
Bleckley County won the boys meet with the lowest possible score of 15 points. The Royals, who put 17 runners in the field, had the first eight finishers and nine in the Top 10 spots.
