PCHS competes at Wayne meet

JESUP — Pierce County’s cross-country teams competed here Thursday in a meet hosted by Wayne County.

The Lady Bears logged a fifth-place finish in the six-team meet won by Frederica Academy. The Lady Knights placed five runners in the top eight spots totaling 24 points.

They were followed by Islands of Savannah (41), Long County (85), Tattnall County (104), PCHS (106) and host Wayne County (128). Not fielding five-member teams were Liberty County, Bradwell Institute and Ware County.

Selah Griffis paced the Lady Bears finishing 13th in the field of 49 runners with a time of 24:30.55. The winning time was 20:28.78.

PCHS runners trailing Griffis were Ana Llamas-Diaz (16th; 24:37.20), Nevaeh Grant (20th; 25:45.05), Rilie De-Pratter (30th; 27:31.11), Addison Folette (44th; 30:54.15), Kymber Minchew (45th; 30:58.14) and Myla Martinez (46th; 31:04.03).

The Bears placed fourth in the seven-team event won by Long County with 53 points. The Blue Tide had three of the first six finishers.

Tattnall County (81) was second followed by Islands (90), PCHS (91), Bradwell Institute (91), Liberty County (126) and host Wayne County (139).

Breck Benton (11th; 19:25.40) was one of three Pierce County runners to finish inside the Top 20. He was followed by Samuel Carrillo (17th; 19:41.44) and Jared Watson (18th; 19:43.46).

The winning time in the field of 52 runners was 17:14.71.

Also running for the Bears were Coleman Lee (24th; 20:19.33), Jeb Bradley (37th; 20:54.45), Jaxson Williams (46th; 22:50.71) and James Alonzo (49th; 24:20.03).
