NAHUNTA — Southeastern Bank will celebrate 100 years of being in business Friday morning.
The bank celebrating a “Century of Service” in Brantley County with the celebration starting at 10 a.m., October 10. Southeastern Bank is donating a live oak tree to the City of Nahunta in commemoration of their shared centennial.
The tree will be planted at the west gateway into Nahunta from Highway 84.
At the Bank itself, there will be a historical display as well as treats, giveaways and drawings throughout the day at the bank.
“For over 100 years, our bank has been a trusted partner with the citizens of Nahunta and Brantley County,” said Jay Torbert, the Bank’s President and CEO. “This centennial is not just a milestone for us, it’s a celebration of the generations of families and businesses who have allowed us to grow with them.
“We are excited to share this special occasion and reiterate our commitment to continue supporting this community for many years to come.”
Southeastern Bank first opened as The Citizens Bank in 1925. An announcement of the opening ran in the November 13, 1924 edition of The Nahunta Banner.
“We assure you that we will endeavor to extend to the citizens of this county every courtesy and convenience possible, and as soon as we are open for business, it will be a pleasure to us to serve you to our utmost capacity,” the bank pledged in the story.
Since that time, the bank has continued to honor this pledge from that same location “on the triangle lot that faces the railroad, lying between the Courson-Rogers company store and Ford agency, operated by Mr. F. O. Knox.”
