HORTENSE – Gwendolyn “Marie” Wooten Sloan, 65 of Hortense passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at her residence.
Born in Brunswick, Mrs. Sloan’s parents were Roy E. Wooten and Winniford Lill ian McMurp h y Wooten. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Herman E. Sloan.
Mrs. Sloan was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God of Prophecy. She loved her dogs dearly. Mrs. Sloan was always a happy person and never met a stranger but most of all she loved her family.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Anthony Eugene Sloan (Brittany) of Brunswick; three grandchildren, Selina Sloan, Bentley Sloan and Ashton Sloan; three brothers and a sister-inlaw, Andrew Julian Wooten of Brunswick, Roy Wooten, Jr. (Denise) of Atkinson and Marty Wooten of Brunswick; four sisters and brothersin- law, Betty Alvens of Brunswick, Roylee Wooten of Brunswick, Doris Johnson (D.J.) and Cindy Smith (Terry) both of McIntosh County; her life-long partner, Colleen “P.J.” O’Neal of Hortense; also several other relatives and a host of friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
