No. 10 BCHS extends win streak to eight sweeping Berrien

Brantley County put together a perfect week with the Lady Herons winning all three games stretching their winning streak to a season-high nine games.

The Lady Herons (17-8 overall, 14-4 Region 1) followed a Monday, September 29 victory over Ware County with a region doubleheader sweep of Berrien.

Brantley County knocked off the Lady Rebels 9-7 August 19 at home with the August 21 meeting cancelled by rain. In the September 30 makeup, the Lady Herons rallied for a 5-3 win in Game 1 and followed with a 133 victory in the nightcap extending its current winning streak to eight games.

BCHS closed out its regular season with a Monday, October 7 tilt at Class 5A ninth-ranked Coffee. The Lady Herons host Class 5A eighth-ranked Glynn Academy Tuesday, October 8 in the regular season finale.

The Lady Herons will enter the post-season with an at-large bid after finishing one game behind third-ranked Bacon County in the region standings. Region champions are guaranteed the top eight spots in the 32-team field.

Brantley County is currently 13th among all (including private) Class A DI schools.

CANEY BAY — Brantley County’s Chelsea Turner and Reagan Mclain combined on a one-hitter pitching the Lady Herons past Ware County.

Turner twirled four innings of perfect ball fanning eight of the 12 batters she faced. Mclain (3 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 3 K, 4 BB) surrendered one-out hit in the sixth inning spoiling the no-hit bid.

BCHS struck for two runs in the first inning against Kayleigh LeMay (5.2 IP, 8 H, 10 R, 3 ER, 1 K, 3 BB). Rilee Story (1-for-3) lined a one-out double and stole third ahead of a walk to Sydnee Davis (1-for-3).

Following a Davis theft of second, a two-base error on a ball hit by Turner (1-for-4) allowed both runners to score for a 2-0 lead.

The Lady Herons doubled the margin to 4-0 with two runs in the third. Lydia Anderson (1for-3) led off with an infield hit and moved over to second on Story’s groundout.

Davis followed with a runscoring double. She scored two batters later on a Chloe Johns (2-for-4) two-out double.

Ware County tightened the game with a three-run sixth to get to within 4-3. Cassidy Lee drew a leadoff walk from Mclain (1-for-4). Ella Musgrove’s (1-for-3) ensuing infield hit, the Lady Gators’ first of the game, was followed by a walk to Ashlyn Jacobs loading the bases.

Lee scored on a one-out passed ball as all three runners advanced a base. Kallie Lairsey’s groundout plated Musgrove cutting the deficit to 4-2. Pinchrunner Lauren Bell, inserted in place of Jacobs, scored the final run on a passed ball.

Brantley County broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth scoring six times in building a 10-3 advantage with three Lady Gator errors proving costly.

Johns got the inning started reaching on the first miscue. After stealing second, Johns scored the first BCHS run on a one-out double off the bat of Mclain. Courtesy runner K. Flowers raced to third on a single by Sydney Page.

A stolen base by Page was followed by a passed ball plating Flowers with Page advancing to third upping the margin to 6-3. After a walk to Madison Walker put runners on the corners, Anderson’s sacrifice fly scored Page for a 7-3 lead.

Consecutive field errors on balls hit by Story and Davis scored a run each for a 9-3 advantage. A run-scoring single by Turner capped the uprising.

NASHVILLE — Brantley County overcame a 3-0 deficit scoring the final five runs to beat the Lady Rebels.

Berrien struck for a first inning run against Mary Hall (7 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 2 K, 3 BB, 1 HBP). Three consecutive oneout singles, the last plating a run, gave the home team a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Rebels chased home two runs in the second for a 3-0 lead. A leadoff single, two-out error and hit batter loaded the bases. A two-run single followed.

BCHS pulled to within 3-1 with a run in the third. Lydia Anderson (3-for-5) lined a leadoff single, stole second and third. Rilee Story (1-for-4) followed with a walk.

Anderson scored on an error with Story racing to third. Berrien escaped further damage with three consecutive infield outs.

The Lady Herons evened the score at 3apiece in the top of the fourth plating two runs after two outs and nobody on base. Braylee Grant (1for-3) extended the inning drawing a four-pitch walk.

After courtesy runner K. Flowers moved up on a passed ball, Anderson lined a base hit and raced to second on the throw to third. Story followed two pitches later with a single driving home both runners tying the game at 3all.

BCHS took the lead for good in the fifth at 4-3 on Grant’s two-out, run-scoring double. Reagan Mclain (1-for-3) worked a two-out walk, stole second and raced home on Grant’s hit.

The Lady Herons scored an insurance run in the sixth for a two-run advantage. Turner was intentionally walked and lifted for Flowers as a pinch-runner. She stole second, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a single by Chloe Jones (1-for-4).

Game 2 No. 10 Lady Herons 13 Berrien....................3

NASHVILLE — The Lady Herons did all of their damage in the first three innings to finish off the doubleheader sweep of Berrien winning in five innings.

Brantley County scored six runs in the first, two in the second and five in the third in building a 13-0 lead. The Lady Rebels scored twice in the fourth and once in the fifth for the final 10-run margin.

Consecutive one-out walks to Story (1-for-2), Chelsea Turner and Sydnee Davis loaded the bases. Story and Turner scored when Johns’ grounder was thrown away.

Davis scored when Grant’s ensuing grounder was booted for a 3-0 lead. Jayden Lewis (3-for-3) and Sydney Page (1-for-3) followed with run-scoring hits. Anderson (1-for-5) singled home the final run for a 6-0 lead.

BCHS scored twice in the second extending its margin to 8-0. Story blooped a single with Turner drawing a walk before the first out was recorded. Both moved up on a two-out wild pitch and scored on a Lewis double to right.

The Lady Herons finished their scoring in the third inning with a fiverun- uprising. Mclain drew a leadoff walk and was lifted for Flowers. Anderson reached on an error.

After both runners moved up on a passed ball, Turner was intentionally walked with one out loading the bases. The first run scored when Davis’s infield pop was misplayed.

Consecutive walks to Johns and Grant forced home two runs for an 11-0 lead. Lewis followed with a two-run single to cap the scoring.

Berrien scratched out two runs in the fourth against Mclain (5 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 5 K, 0 BB, 1 HBP).
