Linton Wilton Banks, 90, of Blackshear, passed away Wednesday morning, October 1, 2025, at Satilla Bluffs Senior Care following an extended illness.
Born September 19, 1935 in Patterson, he was a son of the late Marvin Clinton and Sylvia Gertrude Batten Banks. A lifelong resident of Pierce County, he was a graduate of Blackshear High School Class of 1954 and was a veteran, having served in the United States Army, being stationed in Germany. He retired as a stone mason, working more than 50 years with Bailey Monument Company in Waycross.
He had been a longtime member of Rehobeth Baptist Church but was currently a member of Sweat Memorial Baptist Church. He had served as a deacon, a choir member, and taught Sunday School at both churches and attended the Sr. Adult Sunday School Class.
He also was an avid walker and loved tending his grape vines and sharing them with friends and family. In his younger years, he was a deer hunter and spent many weekends dog hunting with his longtime friend, Tommy Hodges in Fargo.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Evelyn Guest Banks; a great-grandchild, Logan Branson; and his siblings, Thomas Banks, Christine Britt, Pauline Kimbrell and Latrelle Lewis.
Survivors include his three daughters, Cindi Crawford (husband Edwin), Dixie Union and Donna Melton (husband Tommy) and Karen Carter, all of Blackshear; eight grandchildren, Chris O’Neal (wife Nealie), Dustin O’Neal (wife Meg), Jamie Justice (wife Bethany), Kyle Melton (wife Robyn), Brandy Russell (husband Julian), Amber Burney, Ashley Taylor, Kellyn Williams (husband Dustin); 18 great-grandchildren; a great-great grandchild and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be from 3-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at the funeral home.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, from the chapel of Hart Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Bill Young officiating.
