WPD seeks 2 connected to robbery; 4 charged

The Waycross Police Department is seeking two individuals in connection with an armed robbery that occurred last week, Capt. Greg Young, Crime Scene Investigations Commader, said Monday.

Four people — one adult and three juveniles — have been apprehended and charged in the Friday, September 26 incident.

Charged in the robbery was Jarius Perry, 18, of Waycross. Perry was taken to the Ware County Jail on the armed robbery charge and remains there, Young said.

About 3:30 p.m., a man driving a Chevrolet HHR picked up six individuals seeking a ride in the area of Elizabeth Park and the Peachwood Apartments. One of the riders pulled a handgun on the driver and hit him in the head and took his money, Young said.

Young said the driver complained of an injury to his head, but declined to have Ware County EMS called.

Two of the people involved fled the scene on foot and were apprehended with in “30-40 minutes” of the incident, Young said. A third was caught at his residence later Friday while the fourth turned himself in shortly thereafter.

Young said a handgun was recovered. He said investigators are still trying to identify the final two individuals involved who are at large.

If anyone has any information about the incident, they may contact WPD detectives at (912) 287-2921 or call the automated tip line at (912) 287-2924 if they wish to remain anonymous.
