Edward Jackson Chancey

NAHUNTA – Edward Jackson Chancey, 93 of Nahunta, passed away Wednesday evening, September 24, 2025 at his residence after an extended illness.

Born in Nahunta, Chancey’s parents were Joseph Milton Chancey and Pearl Morgan Chancey. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Barbara

Jean Harris Chancey; two sisters, Loutrelle Chancey and Tiny Stewart; and two brothers, Bobby Chancey and Carroll Chancey.

Chancey worked for Georgia Pacific and served in the United States Army Quartermaster Corps as a Corporal. He was also the owner and operator of Chancey’s Standard Oil Station that later became known as Chevron and served on the Brantley County Board of Education as a chairman for many years.

Chancey was a member of the Jaycees, Lyons Club, Nahunta Masonic Lodge for 53 years and was a District Worshipful Grandmaster for the Mason’s. Most of all he loved to spoil his grandkids, especially traveling with them and cooking.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Phillip Chancey (Sara) of Hoboken; two daughters and a son-in-law, Phyllis Chancey of Nahunta and Patricia Carrier (Paul) of Atlanta; four grandchildren, Melissa Strickland (Travis Myers), Constance Carrier, Garrett Strickland (Casey) and Loren Chancey; seven great grandchildren, Annie-Mae Grace Strickland, Jackson Carrier, Tennessee Jackson Strickland, John Lee Dempsey Strickland, Georgia Lynne Strickland, Jameson Tex Strickland and Bella Gina Maina; a brother and sister-in-law, Roger Chancey (Emily) of Nahunta; and also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

A funeral service was held Monday morning, September 29, 2025 at the chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Chaplain Carlos White officiating.

Burial followed in New Hope Cemetery with military honors.

Pallbearers were Garrett Strickland, Bobby Joe Chancey, Marc Chancey, William Harris, Travis Myers and James Riggins.

The family would like to give special thanks to Mr. Chancey’s sitters, Patricia Crews, Pam Strickland and Sharon Allen and the Georgia Hospice Care nurses and CNAs.

Arrangements were with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
