‘Night to Shine’ topic at Rotary

The Blackshear Rotary Club recently welcomed guest speaker Emilie King, nurse practitioner with Hospice Satilla and Satilla Palliative Care. King, who serves patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings, shared her passion for serving others and her leadership role in the annual Night to Shine event.

Sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation, Night to Shine is a one-night prom experience designed to give individuals with special needs an evening to remember. The event was hosted locally at First Baptist Church Blackshear, where last year’s celebration welcomed 147 honored guest and 387 volunteers. From the red-carpet experience and floral station to dinner, dancing, a DJ playing all their favorite songs, karaoke, games and even a 22-passenger party bus, guest were treated like royalty. The evening culminated in a balloon drop and the crowning of each participant as King or Queen of the night.

Outside of her professional and volunteer work, King stays busy with her family. She is married to Caleb King, and together they are raising three daughters.

King announced that preparations are underway for this year’s Night to Shine, scheduled February 13 at First Baptist Church in Blackshear. To support the event, the team is organizing a new fundraiser, Shine Out Loud Music Festival, 5-9 p.m. November 22 at the Okefenokee Fairgrounds. Proceeds will help Night to Shine to fund another unforgettable evening for the communities honored guests.

King is also a board member with The Miracle League of the Okefenokee, Rebuilding Together and The Bryant Hayman Foundation, as well as a sustainer of Waycross Service League where she continues to support their endeavors as she is able. Emilie and her husband Caleb are active members at Destination Church, where they host a weekly small group in their home and participate in many other programs and events. Just last year Emilie was awarded the Leona Dixon Bright Spot award at the annual Pierce County Chamber of Commerce banquet.

“On behalf of the Blackshear Rotary Club, I would like to thank Emilie for visiting and for all she does to serve the surrounding communities,” said Rotary Club President Stacey Thrift, pictured above with Emilie King.
