Georgia Recovery Bus visits Blackshear

A very distinctive vehicle pulled through Blackshear last Thursday, the Georgia Recovery Bus.

On a tour of the entire state, the Georgia Recovery Bus is, literally and figuratively, a vehicle for the Georgia Council for Recovery (GC4R) to draw attention to their mission of advocacy for peer led drug abuse recovery and prevention.

Timed to coincide with National Recovery Month, the Georgia Recovery Bus will spend the entire month of September touring the state, making stops in 75 different communities along the way, including Blackshear and nearby Waycross.

The September 1 kickoff event took place in Atlanta. By September 25 and the Blackshear stop, the bus had already visited locations ranging from Conyers, Rome, Fayetteville, Macon, Dublin, Brunswick and more. Different stops were for different durations and purposes.

Blackshear was one of the Recovery Bus’s “proclamation” stops. As explained in a video on the GC4R website, those in recovery, who love someone in recovery or just want to be part of the solution are encouraged to speak their truth and tell their stories.

Received by Blackshear Mayor Keith Brooks, City Clerk Angel Robson, and members of the Trust Partnership, Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Christi Pitts, Pierce Family Connection Stephanie Bell and Health Promotion Coordinator for the Southeast Health District Ambi Bess, the section of the bus bearing Blackshear’s name was signed by those present before heading to its next stop in Waycross.
