Special to the WJH Ware County commissioners approved four items during their regular monthly meeting held Monday, September 8 in the Administration Building.
The regular meeting followed a work session and two two public hearings.
Present were Chairman Elmer Thrift, Commissioners Leonard Burse, Barry Cox and Jon Tindall. Commissioner Timothy Lucas was absent.
Also present was County Manager James Shubert, County Clerk Melinda Brooks and Assistant County Attorney Jennifer Herzog.
Commissioners approved the title search, appraisal and purchase of right-of-way for North McDonald Road The board authorized the county attorney to complete title investigations on properties being purchased for the paving of North McDonald Road.
Commissioners also authorized the county manager to hire a certified appraiser to obtain appraisals of such properties and to purchase such properties at the appraised value.
Commissioners, in a 3-1 vote after a lengthy discussion, approved the ESG application on behalf of the City of Waycross for a Right of Way Encroachment Permit to extend a 12-inch water main into the Industrial Park for the purpose of connecting the two water systems.
Commissioner Burse voiced his concerns for the project and voted “no” when the roll call was taken.
Voting for the project were Chairman Thrift, Commissioner Cox and Commissioner Tindall. Commissioner Lucas abstained.
The board approved an alcohol license request for Shell’s Bar at 1900 Brunswick Highway in Waycross.
County Manager Shubert stated the applicant, Shelley Ann DeLoach, does not have any disqualifiers which would prevent her from obtaining an alcohol license.
The commission OK’d the request of EMA Director Jonathan Daniell to surplus a 30KW generator.
The generator is no longer operational, but a neighboring county has expressed interest in the generator for parts.
“Their generator can use parts off of our generator, but we cannot get parts for our generator,” Shubert said.
