Unison welcomes GACSB’s Cameron

Special to the WJH Unison Behavioral Health recently welcomed Vanessa Cameron, Executive Director of the Georgia Association of Community Service Boards (GACSB) for a visit highlighting the important role Unison plays in Southeast Georgia and sharing updates on new initiatives.

Unison is one of 22 Community Service Boards (CSBs) across Georgia. CSBs are public organizations created under state law to provide treatment and support for individuals living with mental illness, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders. As part of Georgia’s public safety net, CSBs ensure access to care for people who are uninsured or underinsured, while also serving individuals with Medicaid and, when possible, other insurances based on local need.

Serving eight counties in Southeast Georgia, Unison provides outpatient and community-based services, crisis care, residential services, and supports that promote recovery and independence.

During the visit, Unison highlighted several new initiatives, including expanding access through a mobile unit, additional after-school support services for youth, in-reach services in local jails and at OATH (Okefenokee Alliance for the Homeless), and co-response partnerships with law enforcement to connect individuals with immediate behavioral health support.

The Georgia Association of Community Service Boards (GACSB) is a trade association designed to support all 22 CSBs operating in Georgia. The GACSB provides advocacy and policy leadership through a unified voice at both the state and national levels.

The GACSB Executive Director’s visit emphasized the importance of strong partnerships between local providers and statewide organizations to ensure quality services are available to all Georgians and provided the opportunity to better understand the needs of service areas.
