Emmanuel International Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, 600 Genoa Street, will hold a special celebration at 7 p.m., Sunday, September 28 recognizing Archbishop Dr. Michael-Angelo James for 45 years of service in ministry.
Guest speaker for the worship program will be Pastor Caminiti Coachman of Cornerstone Church of God in Dothan, Ala. A time of fellowship with refreshments will follow the service.
Dr. James has spent the last 35 years of his tenure ministering to the EIC congregation.
His journey in ministry began August 10, 1980, when he was licensed as a Gospel Minister, followed by his ordination in May 1983 by the Rev. Dr. Eugene James Menefee.
In December 1989, he accepted the call to pastor his current church, where his installation was celebrated in February 1990.
In 1998, he was elected Senior Bishop by the Cathedral’s Board of Directors.
In February 2002, Bishop Dr. James was consecrated under the leadership of Archbishop Dr. Leonard David Love.
His leadership and vision continued to be recognized. He was reaffirmed as Bishop-Primate in 2008 and elevated to Metropolitan Archbishop of the Global Conference of Bishops in 2018 by Archbishop Dennis Myles Golphin.
Beyond Emmanuel, Archbishop James has left a lasting impact on the broader faith community. He founded the International Cathedral of Faith Fellowship in 2003 and has served as overseer of the Church of God in Claxton, Ga., since 2000.
After 45 years, Dr. James continues to lead with compassion, intellect, and a deep commitment to building bridges-between people, institutions, and ideas for a more equitable and spiritually grounded future.
In addition to his ministry, Dr. James is a lifelong educator and respected leader whose career has spanned education, ministry, public service, and civic engagement. He currently is in the middle of his second term as Mayor of Waycross where he is known for his dedication to equity, sustainability, and community development.
