Gators place fifth in Coffee Invitational cross-country meet

DOUGLAS — Ware County participated here Thursday at the Coffee Invitational in a five-team cross-country meet.

The Lady Gators only had three members for the September 18 meet and did not qualify for team points.

Host Coffee topped the field with 21 points. The Lady Trojans were followed by Camden County (39), Atkinson County (89) and Valdosta (106).

Faith Williams led the trio of Lady Gators placing 24th posting a time of 30:25.74 in the field of 42 runners. The winning time was 21:49.33.

Bronwyn Bennett placed 36th with a time of 33:26:10 while Ah’Zion Smith finished 41st with a time of 40:14.28.

The Gators were fifth with 119 points. Coffee made a clean sweep of the titles clipping Valdosta by one point 42-43. Camden County was third with 46 points with Atkinson County finishing with 103 points.

Brayten Hood, Brock Payne and Wesley Frye copped Top 20 finishes in the field of 77 runners posting sub-20-minute times. Hood (17th; 19:40.96) led the way and was followed by Payne (19th; 19:44.13) and Frye (20th, 19:54.54).

Also running were Lorenzo Harris (32nd; 20:51.79), Damari Bennett (33rd; 20:54.31), Silas Mixon (40th; 21:48.68), Giovanni Solorio (42nd; 22:07.87), Ashton Stormant (49th; 23:34.33), Seth King (54th; 24:33.40), Jax Yarger (56th; 25:22.79), Colton Landrum (69th; 29:43.78), Antwan Baker (70th; 30:00.35) and Jameson Addison (77th; 44:49.78).
