Brantley County knocked off its second straight Top 10 Region 1A foe taking the best-ofthree series with fourth-ranked Jeff Davis.

BCHS returned to the Class 1A DI Top 10 following the victory over the Lady Yellow Jackets which came on the heels of a series win a week earlier against thirdranked Bacon County.

The Lady Herons (10-8 overall, 9-4 region) ended the seven-game winning of the Lady Yellow Jackets (13-5, 9-4) scoring the winning run in the top of the seventh in the Tuesday, September 16 series opening 3-2 victory in Hazlehurst.

Jeff Davis bounced back Thursday, September 18 taking Game 1 of the doubleheader 7-0. Brantley County bounced back in the nightcap posting a 3-2 victory to clinch the series.

BCHS hosted Charlton County Monday, September 22 before beginning a three-game region series against Worth County. Game 1 of the series was contested Tuesday, Sep-tember 23 with the Lady Herons traveling to Sylvester for a doubleheader Thursday, September 26.

Ware County visits Monday, September 29 at 6 p.m. for the series finale. Brantley County goes to Nashville for a doubleheader Tuesday, September 30 to wrap up the region series interrupted August 21 by inclimate weather.

Class AA third-ranked Appling County visits Wednesday, October 1 to finish out the series at 4:30 p.m.

HAZLEHURST — Rilee Story’s one-out sacrifice bunt in the top of the seventh scored Caiden Jones with the eventual game-winning run to beat Jeff Davis.

Tied at 2-apiece since the fourth inning Jones (3-for-3) ripped a leadoff double. Lydia Anderson’s (1-for-2) sacrifice bunt moved Jones to third. Story followed with a squeeze scoring Jones for the one-run advantage.

Reagan Mclain (7 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 4 K, 0 BB) finished her 67-pitch, complete game performance with a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh.

Brantley County grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Anderson lined the third pitch of the game for a base hit. She stole second and scored from there on a passed ball.

Story followed with a walk and scored on a one-out double by Sydnee Davis (1-for-3).

The Lady Yellow Jackets sliced the deficit in half in the bottom of the inning. A one-out single and a three-base error on a fly ball produced the run.

BCHS threatened in the second with a twoout hit by Jones and a stolen base before the third out was recorded. Riley was left at third after a leadoff double in the third inning.

Jeff Davis tied the score at 2-all in the bottom of the fourth getting a leadoff double and a one-out sacrifice fly.

Jones led off the Lady Herons’ fifth with a single and was left standing at second after Anderson’s sacrifice bunt.

Mclain worked out of a first-and-second situation with one out in the bottom of the inning following a single and an error.

Brantley County was unable to capitalize on consecutive walks to Davis and Jayden Lewis to start the sixth inning.

CANEY BAY — The Lady Yellow Jackets used a four-run second inning to grab a lead it would not relinquish in a threehit shutout against Brantley County.

Jeff Davis, after stranding two runners in the first against Mary Hall (1.1 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 0 K, 1 BB, 1 HBP), used a two-run homer, a one-out bases loaded walk and a two-out bases loaded passed ball to build a 4-0 advantage.

The Lady Yellow Jackets struck for two runs against Chelsea Turner (5.2 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 8 K, 2 BB) after two were out and nobody on base in the third extending the margin to 6-0.

A two-out walk kept the inning alive. A bunt base hit and a passed ball advanced the runners into scoring position. An error allowed both to score.

The visitors added a final run in the fifth on a two-out single.

Brantley County managed just three base hits. Story (1-for-3) laced a oneout double in the first, Lewis (1-for-3) ended a stretch of 11 consecutive Lady Herons retired with a leadoff single in the fifth, and Davis (1-for-3) singled with one out in the 7th.

CANEY BAY — Three consecutive run-scoring base hits in the fifth inning helped Brantley County break a scoreless tie in winning the decisive third game.

The Lady Herons stranded four base runners through the first four innings before breaking a scoreless tie in the fifth.

Mclain (1-for-3) ripped a leadoff double with courtesy runner K. Flowers racing home with the first run of the game on Jones’ (1-for-2) ensuing double two pitches later. Anderson (2-for-3) followed with a run-scoring single and took second on the throw to the plate. Anderson motored home on Story’s (1-for-3) infield hit for a 3-0 advantage.

Jeff Davis responded in the top of the sixth with a two-run rally against Mclain (7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 6 K, 0 BB). With runners on the corners, a dropped third strike allowed the lead runner to score. The second run scored on a passed ball closing the deficit to 3-2.

Mclain set the Lady Yellow Jackets down in order in the top of the seventh with a strikeout and two groundouts.
