Pierce x-country teams log Top 10 finishes at Toombs

LYONS — Pierce County High School’s cross-country teams each registered Top 10 finishes here Thursday at the Toombs County Bulldog Invitational.

The Lady Bears placed seventh in the 13-team girls’ meet with 153 points. Islands of Savannah captured the meet with 61 points.

The Lady Sharks were followed by Frederica Academy (91), Statesboro (95), Vidalia (124), Appling County (134), Woodville-Tompkins (150), PCHS, Trinity Christian of Statesboro (158), Wayne County (225), Tattnall County (241), Pinewood Christian (254), Swainsboro (316) and East Laurens (353).

The Bears finished ninth in the field of 20 teams totaling 215 points. Vidalia easily won the boys’ title with 45 points placing four runners (third thru sixth) inside the first six finishers.

Following the Indians in the Top 10 were host Toombs County (106), Statesboro (161), Tattnall County (166), East Laurens (190), Islands (191), Wayne County (202), Bradwell Institute (209), PCHS and Woodville-Tompkins (226).

Trinity Christian of Statesboro led 1120 with 248 points. Following were Frederica Academy (282), Appling County (291), Liberty County (328), Jeff Davis (348), Swainsboro (411), New Hampstead (475), Pinewood Christian (553), Montgomery County (554) and McIntosh County Academy (617).

Pierce County’s Selah Griffis placed 19th in the field of 115 runners and medaled as a Top 20 finisher with a time of 25:32.33. The winning time was 20:58.68.

Trailing Griffis were Baylee Rose Tippins (29th; 26:18.96), Nevaeh Grant (36th; 26:50.61), Rillie De-Pratter (40th, 27:07.54), Anna Llamas-Diaz (49th; 27:33.13), Addison Folette (84th; 31:1690), Myla Martinez (93rd; 32:10.09) and Kymber Minchew (94th; 32:21.30).

Boys’ meet

Brandon Yepes topped the eightmember Bears’ squad, placing 26th in the field of 188 runners and posting a time of 19:55.59. The winning time was 16:55.57.

Yepes was followed by Breck Benton (30th; 20:11.14), Samuel Carrillo (45th; 20:51.47), Jared Watson (53r; 21:13.78), James Alonso (61st; 21:39.50), Coleman Lee (71st; 21:54.70), Jeb Bradley (74th; 21:59.65) and Jaxson Williams (133rd; 25:05.27).
