Eleanor ‘Maureen’ Waldron Hicks Wade

FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. — Eleanor “Maureen” Waldron Hicks Wade, 86 years, passed away Friday, September 12, 2025, at the Warner Center for Caring in Fernandina Beach.

Mrs. Wade was born in Folkston, and was the daughter of the late Elias Dewey and Ethel Charity Higginbotham Waldron.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded by her son, Herbert Hicks, Jr., grandchildren David Hicks, Jr., and Nicole “Nikki” Huot; her brothers and sisters, Edna Vantine, Morris Waldron, Mildren Griffis, Earl Waldron, Gladys Strickand, Marion Saunders and two infant siblings, Mollie Margaret and Henry Jackson Waldron.

She was a military wife for more than 25 years, and a long-standing member of Springhill Baptist Church. Mrs. Wade taught kindergarten Sunday school, was the preschool director, hospitality coordinator and was a member of the choir for many years.

Her hobbies included gardening, baking, cooking, sewing, and loving on her family and friends. She instilled a love of God and family in us all.

Mrs. Wade leaves behind her children, Cindy Guidry, Debbie (John) Currin, David (Janice) Hicks, and Michael Wade; her grandchildren Danielle (Bill) Baughn, Michelle Guidry, Stephen Sanderson, Hannah Avera, Brooke (Courtney), Beckie (Joe) Cali, Britnie (Michael) Gardiner, Aaron Huot, and Jimmy Wade, as well as 25 great grandchildren and two greatgreat grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 18th at Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors, Fernandina Beach.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 19 in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors, with Pastor Darryl Bellar officiating.

Mrs. Wade be laid to rest at Kettle Creek Cemetary in Waycross at 3 p.m. Friday.
