MSH’s Abbott receives award

Jonathan Abbott, Heart Center Director at Memorial Satilla Health, was recently awarded the Randy Sharpe Health Hero Award at the Waycross-Ware County Chamber Banquet.

Abbott has been an integral part of the Heart Center team since the program launched 15 years ago. Recently, he led the implementation of a new cardiac care process that reduced patient wait times and improved post-op outcomes.

“We’re immensely proud to see Jonathan recognized with the Health Hero Award,” said MSH Chief Executive Officer Damon Barrett. “This honor is a testament to his unwavering dedication and profound impact on the lives of our patients.

“He hasn’t only elevated the standard of care at Mem orial Satilla, but has also been a driving force in advancing cardiovasc ular health in our community.”

Abbott has been employed at Memorial Satilla for 30 years. He also serves as Ware County’s deputy coroner and is actively involved in the Waycross community.

“I’m incredibly humbled and grateful to receive this award. It truly belongs to our entire Heart Center team and our collaborators across hospital departments who work tirelessly every day,” Abbott said. “I’m excited to see what we can still yet achieve for our patients and our community.”

His daughter-in-law Briana Abbott presented the award.

“He has a heart and soul for the community of Waycross and its surrounding areas,” she said when presenting the award. “I’ve watched him answer phone calls late in the evening to lend a listening ear.”

Memorial Satilla Health's cardiology team has performed 3,500 interventional cardiac procedures and thousands of diagnostic catheterization procedures in the last 15 years. Their first percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) was performed in February 2010.
