Arrests of two made near Ware State Prison involving drug poss.

Two Brunswick men are in the Ware County Jail after being arrested last week near Ware State Prison for posses sion of drugs and items prohib ited for posses sion by inmates, Ware County Sheriff’s Major Neil Skerratt said Monday, September 15. Arrested Monday, September 8 were Tai’Shaun Antonio Thomas, 23, of the 200o block of Reynolds Street in Brunswick and Nai’jiah Devon Harris, 22, of the 600 block of W. Harper Drive in Brunswick.

Thomas was charged with felony Possession of Items Prohibited for Possession by Inmates, felony Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, and misdemeanor Prowling or Loitering.

Harris was charged with felony Possession of Items Prohibited for Possession by Inmates, felony Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, and misdemeanor Prowling or Loitering and Vehicle Window Tint violation.

Both men were denied bond in appearances before a magistrate.

About 2:15 a.m. September 8, WCSO Patrol Deputy Ethan Arnold responded to the Ware State Prison area after correctional officers reported a vehicle repeatedly riding the perimeter of the prison.

Arnold was joined in the area by Patrol Deputy Wayne Thrift. The two patrolled the area and Arnold found a blue, Nissan Sentra parked in a driveway near the corner of Harris and Airport Roads with Harris in the driver’s seat and Thomas in the rear seat.

The deputies asked for and were given consent to search the vehicle. They discovered a trash bag and opened it to find multiple vacuumed sealed bags, one with 7.4 ounces of a green leafy substance. Others held tobacco rolling papers, 11 cellphones, and eight smaller bags packed in a manner consistent with the contraband has been packaged on previous prison drops WCSO had investigated.

The contents of the bags caused the deputies to detain the two individuals for arrest.
