Long-time Patterson businessman and former Mayor Ed Hyers is remembered this week for his devotion to his God, his family and his community.
Hyers, 93, passed away Sunday, Sept. 7.
A native and lifelong resident of Pierce County, Hyers was active in his community all of his life.
A 1949 graduate of Patterson High School, he served in the U.S. Army and then returned home to Patter- Hyers son.
He partnered with his father in the Patterson Milling Company and was passionate about farming. He was a past Young Farmer of the Year in Pierce County.
He served as mayor of Patterson and at the time of his election in 1962 was the youngest mayor in Georgia at the time. He later served a term on the Pierce County Board of Education.
Hyers loved his family and most of all was devoted to God and served as a faithful member at Patterson Baptist Church.
He was also active in the Patterson Lions Club.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, from the Patterson Baptist Church.
