Planning Commission Hilites

The Pierce County Planning Commission discuss and/or voted on the following during their regular monthly meeting Monday, September 8.

Rezoning for 2 acres at 4973 Turner Lane, Blackshear: Planning commissioners approved recommending approval of rezoning two acres on Turner Lane, Blackshear, from agriculture/forestry to light industrial. Larry Turner made the request. The property will be the location of a business that will manufacture tiny homes. In response to a question by Commissioner Timothy Griffis, Turner said the location will include a sales office. Turner also said the tiny homes will be built at the location, but will then be sold and moved somewhere else. There was no public opposition to the request. The item will be forwarded to the county commission for final approval.

Conditional use permit for Georgia Highway 32, Mershon: Planning commissioners approved recommending approval of a request for a conditional use permit on Georgia Highway 32, Mershon near AgPro Mershon John Deere dealership. Vertical Bridge of Rosemont, Illinois will build a 260 ft. high wireless communications tower for T-Mobile. Griffis asked about the sturdiness of the tower, especially in light of last year’s hurricane. A representative from Vertical Bridge said the tower will drilled in to bedrock and, in the unlikely event the tower fails in high winds, it is designed to collapse down on itself instead of falling over. There was no public opposition to the request. The item will be forwarded to the county commission for final approval.
