A Patterson woman was injured and her estranged husband arrested after he allegedly hit her with a shovel and stabbed her in the neck with a knife.
The incident happened during the evening hours of Sunday, Sept. 7, in the area between East Patterson Drive and Walnut Way in Patterson.
According to Sheriff Ramsey Bennett, Deldrick Tyrone Burch was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and cruelty to children in connection with the case.
According to the incident report, Burch had a confrontation with his estranged wife when she came to pick up their kids.
Burch reported told officers that he “kept getting strung along by his wife’s lies and he exploded.”
According to the victim and witness statements, Burch allegedly attacked the woman, pulling a knife across her throat yelling “You’ll die (expletive)!”, and “Ain’t nobody going to have you.” He then strangled her. She attempted to fight back. A relative of the victim attempted to help and took a shovel and hit Burch. Burch managed to wrestle the shovel away from the family member and used it to hit the victim in the head after he had stabbed her.
The victim managed to escape and flee to a neighbor’s house to call for help.
Neighbors and family members assisted the victim until law enforcement and the Pierce County Emergency Medical Service arrived. The couple’s children were reportedly present during the attack.
The victim sustained a serious wound on her neck, but survived the attack. An update on her condition was not available at press time.
Burch is being held in the Pierce County Jail.
