HOBOKEN — City officials spent a good portion of its monthly September meeting working out details of cost for the Hoboken Community Center.
“We need to set one fee for the community center,” said Mayor Joey Crews during the Tuesday, September 2 monthly meeting of the Hoboken City Council.
“We’re still looking at a need to get something done, whereas one price covers it all,” said Crews. “Y’all are still working on forming a bigger solution of getting the cleanup fee and deposit all in one payment with us doing the cleaning ... that’s been tabled for a while.”
City Clerk Linda Henderson told the council the cost to rent is $250 for City of Hoboken residents and $325 for non-residents. There is also a $150 deposit for cleaning, which is refunded if the renter(s) cleans up.
“The problem is them cleaning to our standards,” said Crews. “We furnish the cleaning stuff anyway. We need to get something get something figured out.”
The mayor was pushing to set a total cost because of the interest to rent the facility for a youth revival for a discounted fee.
“The gentleman wants it for four hours for three days,” said Crews.
Mayor Pro-Tem Robin Helmuth asked Henderson if the prospective renter knew he was already getting a discount for being a Hoboken resident.
“This never stops,” the mayor said. “He said he would clean it, but you’re right back where you started. Y’all (council) can stop a lot of this if you set the rental fee at one price.”
“If y’all want to make a special rule for non-profits or churches you could, but it needs to be the same for each,” said City Attorney Adam Ferrell.
“He’s getting a discount of $75 a day for being a city resident,” stated Crews. “We don’t have decide tonight if y’all think about it.”
The youth revival is next month after the October 6 monthly meeting.
“There will be three cleanup fees, regardless,” Crews said. “We’re paying to get it cleaned regardless.”
