NAHUNTA — Mrs. Annie Mayo Dowling Gillis, 89, passed away Monday, September 8, 2025 at Bayview Nursing Home in Nahunta following an extended illness.

Mrs. Gillis was born in Brantley County to the late James N. Dowling and Carol ine Hanchey Dowling. She was employed with Okef enoke Rural Electrical Membership Corporation as a members records specialist for many years.

Mrs. Gillis was also a longtime member of Hoboken Baptist Church. She had a love for nature in her spare time. She grew various flowers and fed numerous wildlife from her own back yard.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gillis was also preceded in death by herhusband, Charles Hamilton Gillis, Jr.; step-son, Charles H. Gillis III; three sisters, Mary Ruby Roberts, Eva Lyons and Mabel Kagan; and five brothers, Cecil Dowling, Eugene Dowling, Roy Dowling, Lawton Dowling and Willie Dowling.

She is survived by a step-son, Phillip D. Gillis of Hoboken; two stepgrandchildren, Charles H. “Chuck” Gillis IV of Hayesville, N.C., and Andrea Gillis of Orlando, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Ann Gillis of Hoboken; a special friend, Ronnie Crews (Sue) of Nahunta; two god sons, Jason Crews of Nahunta and Alan Crews (Meghan) of Waverly; two sisters-inlaw, Evelyn Dowling of Hoboken and Jackie Dowling of Garden City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held Friday, September 12, 2025 at Hoboken Baptist Church.

Burial followed in Hoboken City Cemetery.
