Dorothy Matilda Barrs Tompkins, 93, of Blackshear, passed away Saturday evening, September 13, 2025, at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross, following an extended illness.
She was born November 15, 1931, in Hitchin, England to the late Charles James and Margaret Dear Barrs. She and her family moved to Pierce County in 1972 and she had worked at Spatola Shoe Factory.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Tompkins; her sister, Margaret Smith and four brothers, Charlie Barrs, John Barrs, Ernest Barrs and Alan Barrs.
Survivors include her three children, Susan Tompkins Smith, Blackshear, Stephen Raymond Tompkins, Douglas and Simon David Tompkins (wife Stacey), Macon; six grandchildren, Nicole Martin of Alma, Savannah Tompkins and Ashlee Lemus, both of Douglas and Sagan Tompkins, Saxon Tompkins and Sinjn Tompkins, all of Macon; eight great-grandchildren, Gatlyn Johnson, Raylynn Johnson, Abel Lemus, Aaliyah Mercer, Analeigh Lemus, Trevor Batten, Noah Bristow and Kade Martin; a brother, David Barrs of England and several other relatives.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, from the chapel of Hart Funeral Home.
Interment will follow in the Waters Cemetery.
