BCHS enters Top 10 with six wins in seven games

Tenth-ranked Brantley County split a pair of nonregion games falling at home and winning on the road.

The Lady Herons (6-5) had their four-game winning streak snapped when visiting Class 5A ninthranked Coffee rallied for a 7-5 victory Tuesday, September 2.

BCHS put together its own late rally Thursday, September 4 at Ware County rallying for a 9-4 decision.

Brantley County traveled to Brunswick Monday, September 8 to face Class 5A seventh-ranked Glynn Academy. The Lady Herons hosted Class A DI third-ranked Bacon County in Game 1 of the three-game region series Tuesday, September 9.

The series shifts to Alma for a doubleheader Thursday, September 11.

BCHS and fourthranked Jeff Davis meet in Game 1 Tuesday, September 16 in Hazlehurst. A doubleheader is scheduled for Thursday, September 18 in Caney Bay.

CANEY BAY — The Lady Trojans scored its seven runs over the final two innings overcoming a 1-0 deficit to beat Brantley County.

The story of the game was Coffee’s Maggie Brown recording 19 of the 21 outs via strikeout. She needed 130 pitches in the complete game performance.

BCHS, after leaving the bases loaded in the second on singles by Caiden Jones (1-for-4) and Jayden Lewis (3-for-3) and a walk to Reagan Mclain, broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth.

Braylee Grant reached on a one-out dropped third strike with Lewis reaching on an infield hit. Grant’s courtesy runner Chloe Johns. moved to third on an error and scored on a two-out theft of home for a 1-0 lead.

Held scoreless for five innings by Mary Hall (5.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 5 K, 4 BB, 1 WP), the Lady Trojans plated four runs in the top of the sixth in taking a 4-1 lead.

Coffee’s first five batters reached on three singles and two walks with four scoring for a three-run lead.

The Lady Herons got one run back in the bottom of the inning on a two-out, solo homer by Lewis cutting the deficit to 4-2.

A one-out three-run homer off Mclain (1.1, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 K, 1 BB, 1 WP) in the top of the seventh pushed the Lady Trojans’ lead to 7-2.

Brantley County tightened the game in the bottom of the inning scoring three runs and bringing the tying run to the plate.

Sydney Page (1-for-3) hit a first-pitch, leadoff triple and scored two pitches later on Lydia Anderson’s (2-for-4) bloop single to center. Anderson, who took second on the throw home, stole third ahead of a walk to Rilee Story.

The duo pulled off a double steal with Anderson swiping home cutting the deficit to 7-4. Story raced home on a two-out error on a ball hit by Jones.

WAYCROSS — Brantley County scored eight times over the final three innings rallying from a 3-1 deficit to beat the Lady Gators.

Ware County plated two, two-out runs in its first trip to the plate against the Lady Herons’ Chelsea Turner (7 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 9 K, 0 BB, 2 WP) collecting three of its six hits.

Ella Musgrove (2-for-4) lined a leadoff single. She beat the throw to second on Ashlyn Jacobs’ fielder’s choice grounder and advanced to third on Kallie Lairsey’s ensuing fielder’s choice.

Mattie Forsyth (1-for-3) delivered a first-pitch, run-scoring single for a 10 lead. Kara Coleman (2for-3) followed with a base hit to right driving home Maggie McQuaig, who was courtesy running for Lairsey.

BCHS scored a run in the top of the second off Kayleigh LeMay (6.2 IP, 12 H, 9 R, 3 ER, 2 K, 0 BB, 5 WP) to close the deficit to 2-1. Jones reached on a one-out error, stole second, and scored when Madison Walker’s twoout grounder was misplayed.

The Lady Gators got the run back in the bottom of the inning in reclaiming a two-run lead. Addie Pittman (1-for-3) blooped a single and raced to third on a two-base error. She scored on passed ball for a 3-1 lead.

Brantley County tied the score in the top of the fifth at 3-apiece. Kynslea Garrison (1-for-3) led off the inning with a firstpitch single and scored one pitch later on a triple by Story (2-for-5).

Following a double play liner, Sydnee Davis (3-for-3) doubled on a first-pitch offering. She raced home with the tying run on Turner’s (2-for-4) ensuing single.

Ware County pushed home a run in the bottom of the inning in claiming its last lead at 4-3. Musgrove legged out a leadoff infield hit and raced to third when Ashlyn Jacobs’ sacrifice bunt was thrown away.

After McQuaig, inserted as Jacobs’ pinch-runner, stole second, Padgett lifted a fly to center with Musgrove scoring on the errant throw home.

The Lady Herons dented the plate twice in the top of the sixth to grab the lead for good at 5-4. Jones reached on a leadoff error, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored the tying run on Mclain’s sacrifice fly to right.

Walker followed by reaching on an error and was removed for courtesy runner Johns. She advanced to second on a wild pitch and on to third on Garrison’s sacrifice bunt. Story’s ensuing base hit gave the Lady Herons a 54 lead.

Brantley County put the game away with a fourrun seventh opening the inning with three consecutive singles.

Davis, Turner and Lewis (2-for-4) all singled in a five-pitch sequence with the Lewis infield hit scoring Davis. A one-out wild pitch moved both Turner and Lewis into scoring position.

Consecutive infield errors on balls hit by Walker and Garrison scored Turner and Lewis before the final out was recorded.

Turner retired Ware County in order in the home half of the seventh.

WAYCROSS — Brantley County scored crooked numbers in each of its three at bats to beat the Lady Gators in three innings behind the nohit pitching of Edie Lowther.

Lowther needed just 40 pitches to strike out all nine batters she faced. She went to a 3-2 count twice and had a one-ball count three times.

BCHS plated seven runs in the first and four in each of the second and third innings.

The Lady Herons finished with eight hits with Kellie Baker (2-for-3, three runs batted in) and Lowther (2-for-3, double, two RBI) leading the way.

Chloe Johns (1-for-3), Kynli Flowers (1-for-2, two ribbies), Braylee Joiner (1-for-1, RBI) and Chloe Drury (1-for-3, two RBI) each collecting a hit.
