Cal-Maine invests in $15 million expansion

Work is already underway

Cal-Maine Foods is making a $15 million expansion to its American Egg Products facility in Blackshear.

Keira Lombardo, chief strategy officer of Cal-Maine Foods, confirmed the expansion last week. Cal-Maine foods is based in Ridgeland, Mississippi.

Construction work on the Blackshear facility is already underway.

“We’re excited to share that we are investing $15 million to expand our American Egg Products facility in Blackshear. This project will enable us to produce more extended shelflife liquid eggs—pasteurized liquid eggs that stay fresh longer without needing to be frozen. For our customers, that means a safe, convenient option for everything from scrambled eggs and omelets to baked goods and sauces.” This expansion comes at a time when more consumers are turning to protein-rich foods as part of healthier lifestyles, with eggs recognized as one of the most affordable, versatile and nutrient-dense protein sources available.

With this additional capacity, Cal-Maine’s Blackshear facility will increase liquid egg production by about 50%.

“This will ensure we can serve more customers with more high-quality egg products that align with today’s health and wellness trends,” Lombardo said.

The project is expected to create four new full-time jobs while supporting the 70 current team members already working at the facility. The new capacity is expected to be operational by March 2026.

“At Cal-Maine, we are proud to be the nation’s leading egg-based food company,” Lombardo added. “With this expansion in Blackshear, we are meeting evolving consumer preferences, while also supporting rural economies and ensuring a strong, reliable food supply. It is an important step forward in delivering affordable, nutritious food choices for every household, every day.”
