The Pierce County Board of Education approved a teeny-weeny, itsy-bitsy millage rate cut at 13.951 mills Monday night, down about five-hundredths from the current rate of 14 mills.
Since the board is planning to use the roll-back rate of 13.951, there would be no tax increase, so the board would not be required to hold additional hearings.
Finance Director Melanie Helms recommended the board set the millage at 13.951 and the board’s vote was unanimous.
The five year tax history is included in this week’s public notices.
The vote for the setting the millage rate will come at the October 6 board meeting.
The millage rate will produce generate $9,669,268 in local property tax revenue. The amount is the local share of the board’s $44.3 million spending plan for fiscal year 2026.
Helms assured the board that the roll-back rate would be sufficient to cover the budget needs for the FY26 school year.
Public hearings were held on the budget in June. No citizens commented at the hearings.
