Whitney Lake bids awarded, culvert replacement to begin soon

A new culvert will soon be installed on Hacklebarney Road near its intersection with Cason Road at the Whitney Lakes Subdivision.

Commissioners approved the low bid of K-Dug in the amount of $445,464.50 for the culvert during their regular meeting last Tuesday night.

Two other bids were received including Underground Excavating at $502,153 and Thrift Brothers, LLC at $760,038.50.

The new culvert will help correct a major infrastructure problem with the road.

The road washed out at the dam near the lake in Whitney Lakes during last year’s hurricane.

Bennett said that while one lane has been stabilized, another heavy rainfall event could take out the entire roadway.

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) relief funds will be used for the repairs.

Hacklebarney and Cason Roads are both on the Transportation Investment Act (TIA) list and the culvert issue needs to be fixed before the road is paved.
