Pierce County Commission Highlights

(The Pierce County Board of Commissioners discussed and/or voted on the following during their regular meeting Tuesday, September 2. ) Timber Lane project, phase 1: Commissioners approved the bid of Underground Excavating in the amount of $351,720 for the first phase of the Timber Lane Project. (See related story.)

Community Development Block Grant: Commissioners approved awarding the low bid in the amount of $1,081,866.99 to the Scruggs Company for Community Development Block Grant on Chapel Circle, Chapel Drive, Tornado Road and Murray Hill Road. (See related

story.)

Whitney Lake project: The board approved the low bid of K-Dug in the amount of $445,464.50 for the Whitney Lakes Road culvert project. (See related story.)

Transportation grant: Commissioners approved the annual resolution allowing the Southern Georgia Regional Commission to file for a transportation grant on behalf of Pierce County. The grant funds the operations of Pierce Transit.

County manager report: County Manager Raphel Maddox gave a report on various county departments and commended Chairman Bennett on his recent election as chairman of the Southern Georgia Regional Commission.

Employee of the Month: Zach Cox of the maintenance department was named employee of the month. (See related photo).

Pledge leader: Guylee Washington, U.S. Army veteran, was the pledge leader for September.

Invocation leader: Fourth district Commissioner David Lowman led the invocation.

Next meeting: The next regular commission meeting will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, at the Southeast Georgia Regional Agriculture Center in Blackshear.
