Two from Patterson earn their doctorates

Macedonia Missionary Baptist celebrates members’ accomplishments

Dr. Phila Bryant and Dr. Jamal Hunter have a lot in common. Both young adults hail from Patterson and are members of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, but the similarities do not stop there.

Bryant and Hunter are both graduates of Pierce County High School and alumni of the University of Georgia (UGA). After UGA, they both also continued furthering their education to pursue doctoral degrees. While each recognizes they have achieved a significant milestone in their educations and careers, neither plans on stopping there.

Dr. Bryant earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Brenau University in Gainesville, and now serves as a traveling DPT with PT Solutions.

Dr. Hunter will officially graduate in December from the University of Georgia with a Ph.D. in Entomology, having successfully defended his dissertation February 28.

Entomology is the branch of zoology concerned with the study of insects. Hunter is currently working in Athens.

Both have their eyes set on entrepreneurship, planning to own their own businesses within the next three to five years.

“They are among the first Black young adults from Patterson in many years to achieve doctoral degrees,” says Pastor Marcus Nix of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. “Their accomplishments reflect their dedication, drive and passion— and most importantly, their commitment to always putting God first.”
