Wynn Carswell Plowden

Wynn Carswell Plowden, 79, of Fernandina Beach, FL, left this earth to lead a choir of angels Sunday, August 10, 2025, at Community Hospice of Fernandina.
Wynn, known affectionately as “Auntie” by her family, was born in Waycross December 13, 1945, as the youngest daughter of Wynelle Lance Carswell and Roscoe Nickles Carswell. She began using her God-gift of singing “as a baby.” She graduated from Waycross High School before receiving her bachelor’s degree in education and music from Valdosta State University, where she starred in several musicals, including “Carousel” and “Oklahoma!”
She was teaching school in Merritt Island, Florida, when she met John Plowden, who she married in 1972. John and Wynn moved around the United States for John’s work in the aerospace and defense business for Rockwell/Boeing, which brought them to New Mexico, California, Mississippi and then back to Florida. A gifted soprano, she sang wherever life took her – whether that be in musicals, church choirs or local events.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Rita Gray and Gloria James, as well as three brother-in-laws, Tommy Gray Sr., McCoy Carter and Billy James.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 53 years, John Plowden, Fernandina Beach, FL; one sister, Nickie Carter, Blackshear; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Edward and wife Peggy Plowden, Edison; nephews, Will James, John (Holly) James, Rodney (Dana) James, all of Blackshear, Brandon (Darcy) Plowden,, Birmingham, AL, Derek (Jennifer) Plowden, Helena, AL, Coy Carter, Jacksonville, FL, Roman (Serenity) Carter, Blackshear, and Tommy Gray Jr., Waycross; nieces, Andrea DeLoach, Blackshear, Kim (Carey) Fields, New Smyrna Beach, FL, Keena (Jerry) Millican, Moultrie, Maurice Barber, Waycross; a godchild, Dr. Amanda Japp, Orlando, FL; as well as several cherished grandnieces, grandnephews and other relatives.
