Two armed robberies Wednesday night within an hour of each other are being investigated by the Waycross Police Department.
Officers responded Wednesday, August 27 to a business in the 1600 block of Plant Avenue at approximately 9:30 p.m., according to WPD Major Danny Hampton.
An unidentified male approached the unidentified female in the parking lot of the business. According to Major Hampton, the male suspect presented a firearm and took some personal items.
“Our Special Operations investigators are working the case,” the major said. “Right now we do not have a suspect.”
The second robbery, less than a mile away, happened within an hour later in the 1000 block of Tebeau Street during business hours. According to the major, it (robbery) was getting close to closing time.
“While we were out investigating the first robbery, the call of the second one went out,” said Hampton. “The suspect entered the business and presented a firearm and took items.”
Major Hampton did not know if the two incidents are related.
“We’ve went both ways with it,” said Hampton. “It’s hard to say right now. What are the odds within an hour of two robberies? They are pretty close in proximity to each other. Common sense would make you think that they probably are so you don’t want to dismiss that. It may be two separate incidents, too.”
