WAYCROSS — Mr. James Edward “Ed” Hagin, 94, of Waycross passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.
He was born February 12, 1931 in Hoboken to Everette and Edna Hagin and was raised on the family farm working alongside his siblings. He married the love of his life, Opal “Jeniece” Lee, March 11, 1955. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in March.
After marriage Hagin enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and the adventures began living in various locations within the United States and Africa. Following 20 years of service he retired from the Air Force and went on to retire from the City of Savannah as well.
Hagin loved country, gospel and bluegrass music. Along with his wife, family, and friends they would make many trips to Nashville, Branson, and Gatlinburg to enjoy shows. He was a member of Second Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. His faith was strong and his message to his family until the end was, “If you want to see me again, accept Jesus Christ as your savior.”
Along with his parents, Hagin was also preceded in death by his sister, Menza Rowling; and a brother, Vic Hagin.
He is survived by his wife, Jeniece; four children, Joel Hagin, Diane Stevens (Timmy), Patty Dixon, and Paul Hagin; two sisters, Marie Hagin and Carol Woodcroft; along with his grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to Kim Wildes, Holly Lee, Emily Ritchie, and Sydney Middleton with Georgia Hospice Care and Rev. Derwin Griffin.
A funeral service was held at Friday, August 29, 2025 at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville, GA.
