Water and sewer rates going up in Patterson

The City of Patterson’s water and sewer rates will be increasing this month.

Rates for usage per gallon per residential equivalent unit have increased effective Sept. 1. The new rates will be reflected on the October water bills.

The rates for water will increase to $2.50 per gallon up to 3,000 gallons of usage. That is up from $2 per gallon inside the city. The rate will also increase 50 cents to $3.50 per gallon outside the city up to 3,000 gallons of usage.

The per gallon fee increases in intervals by quantity. (For full rates, see public notice ad on page 3).

The base rate charges for water remain unchanged. The city currently charges $16.50 per residential equivalent unit (REU) inside the city limit. The base rate for outside the city will be $20.50 per REU. A $2 administration charge will be assessed per account.

Wastewater rates will see similar increases.

The wastewater rates will increase from $2.72 per gallon to $3.50 per gallon up to 3,000 gallons of usage for residents in the city. The rates for customers outside the city will increase from $4.07 to $4.50 per gallon up to 3,000 gallons of usage.

The per gallon fee increases in intervals by quantity. (For full rates, see public notice ad on page 3).

The base rate charges for sewer remain unchanged. Base cost for wastewater per REU will be $20.06 in the city and $24.80 outside the city.

Tap in fees will also be changing. Tap fees will now be $3,500 if the main is under roadway and $2,500 per every 10’ by 10’ patch.

The water tap fee before the increase was $500, while the sewer tap fee was $1,000.

Mayor Dedi Thomas said the increases are necessary to keep up with the cost of maintaining the city’s water and sewer system. The rates have not been increased in at least the past decade.
