Herbert A. Rogers, Sr.

Herbert A. Rogers, Sr., died on August 27, 2025.

Rogers was born December 17, 1930, in Jesup, the son of Milton E. Rogers and Ora Lee Sloan Rogers.

He was raised in Brantley County. After graduation from Nahunta High School, Rogers attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) in Tifton.

United States Army January 11, 1949. He served in Japan and Korea and was a veteran of the Korean conf lict. Rogers was awarded the Occup ation Medal Japan, Korean Service Medal and three Stars, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation and United Nations Service Medal.

After his military service, Rogers came to Brunswick in 1952 and joined Brunswick Pulp and Paper Co., later to be the Georgia Pacific Corporation, where he worked 41 years and attained the position of mechanical maintenance superintendent for his last 23 years of service.

Rogers joined Calvary Baptist Church in June of 1952 and faithfully served the Lord and the Church. While a member, he held many ministry positions including being a deacon since 1955 and served many years as Deacon Chairman. Rogers also served as Sunday School Director and Teacher.

He served on many committees and in later years he and his wife, Mildred, served the homebound ministry. After 59-1/2 years at Calvary Baptist Church, God called him and Mildred to help start a new work at Golden Isles Baptist Church where they continued to serve in ministry.

Rogers and his wife started serving as missionaries in 1996. They served in several states including Alaska, Utah, Idaho, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia and Florida. They made many trips to the Carribean Support Center in Hollywood, Fla., and the Georgia Baptist Conference Center in Toccoa, Ga. He also worked with Habitat for Humanity and many other local causes.

Rogers was preceded in death by his mother and father; his first wife of 42 years, Myrtice Naves Rogers; his second wife, of 28 years, Mildred Denison Rogers; his three sons, Herbert A. Rogers Jr., Kenneth Timothy Rogers and Philip Alan Rogers; his sisters, Greta Oveta Douglas, Rosa Lee Daniels, Verdie Mae Rowell and Virginia Peeple; and his brother, Milton Rogers, Jr.

Rogers is survived by daughter, India Rogers of Taylors, S.C.; his brother, Charles Rogers of Columbus, Ga.; grandchildren, Jessica Melone (Brian) of Greer, S.C.; Brendon Cassabon (Elaina) of Charlotte, N.C.; Jennifer McGee of Starr, S.C.; Herbert Albert Rogers, Jr. (Anne Marie) of Jacksonville, Fla.; Kyle Rogers (Heather) of Brunswick; six greatgrandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Golden Isles Baptist Church and Brunswick Pulp and Paper Retirees.

Rogers’ viewing and receiving of friends will be Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 10 a.m., with funeral services following immediately afterwards.

Interment will take place in Palmetto Cemetery.

Brunswick Memorial Park is honored to have assisted the family.
