James Edward ‘Ed’ Hagin

WAYCROSS — Mr. James Edward “Ed” Hagin, 94 of Waycross, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family Tuesday, August 26, 2025.

Hagin was born February 12, 1931 in Hoboken to Everette and Edna Hagin. Raised on the family farm working alongside his siblings. He married the love of his life, Opal “Jeniece” Lee on March 11, 1955. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in March.

After marriage he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. The adventures began while living in various locations within the United States and Africa. Following 20 years of service, Hagin retired from the Air Force and went on to retire from the City of Savannah as well.

He loved country, gospel and bluegrass music. Along with his wife, family, and friends they would make many trips to Nashville, Branson and Gatlinburg to enjoy shows.

Hagin was a member of Second Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. His faith was strong and his message to his family until the end wa, “If you want to see me again, accept Jesus Christ as your savior.”

Along with his parents, Hagin was also preceded in death by his sister, Menza Rowling; and a brother, Vic Hagin.

He is survived by his wife, Jeniece; four children, Joel Hagin, Diane Stevens (Timmy), Patty Dixon and Paul Hagin; two sisters, Marie Hagin and Carol Woodcroft; along with his grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to Kim Wildes, Holly Lee, Emily Ritchie and Sydney Middleton with Georgia Hospice Care and Rev. Derwin Griffin.

A funeral service was held Friday, August 29, 2025 at the Music Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial followed at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville.

In lieu of flowers, Hagin requested contributions be made to the Georgia Hospice Care Carnation Foundation by going online and visiting www.carnationfoundation.
