WAYNESVILLE – Richard “Ricky” Lee Ammons, 77, of Waynesville passed away early Friday morning, August 29, 2025, at his residence after an extended illness.
Born in Tampa, Fla., Ammons’ parents were Raymond Linker “R.L.” Ammons and Golda Pearl “Nookie” Riggins Ammons. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Davis Ammons; a son, Adam Ammons; a great grandson, Gunner Lane Ussery; and three sisters, Rita Howard, Cheryl Wainright and Patricia Hickox.
Ammons was a logger who loved taking care of his daughter, Caroline, riding dirt roads and watching John Wayne movies.
Survivors include his three daughters and a son-in-law, Marie Carter of Nahunta, Caroline Ammons and Heather Perry (Billy) all of Waynesville; nine grandchildren, Zach Johns, Devin Crosby, Dalton Ammons, Rachel Ammons, Boss Ammons, Lauren Ussery, Bailey Carter, Gabby Ammons and Hayden Ammons; eight great grandchildren; a brother, Jamie Ammons of Waynesville; five sisters and brothersin- law, Peggy Gibson (John), Carolyn Drawdy (Gene), Robin Wheeler (Don) all of Waynesville, Susie Wilson (Harley) of Folkston and Monica Allen (William) of Hillard; a special nephew, Billy Ammons of Waynesville; and also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Ammons’ nurse, Nancy, and to Georgia Hospice Care and his nurses aid, Jessica O’Berry.
