JESUP — Laura Darlene “Dotty” Brown McWhorter passed away Thursday, August 28, 2025 under the care of Hospice of the Golden Isles.
Mrs. McWhorter was born August 24, 1965, in Jesup to James Franklin Brown and Sylvia Louise Dowdy. She finished her schooling in Lindale, Ga., at Pepprell High School.

in death by her loving father, Frank Brown; her daughter, Kayla Elizabeth McWhorter; her loving pat ernal grandpare nts, James Edward Brown and Lila Mae Tayl o r Brown; maternal grandparents, Benjamin “Bennie” Franklin Dowdy, Carrie Mae Mullis Dowdy; and her nannie, Carrie May was so special to her she nicknamed her Dolly.
Mrs. McWhorter taught her lots of things like cooking and sewing. It was on a Wednesday night service at Yulee Church of God with her nannie that she found Jesus Christ as her savior. Her nanny was a big influence in her life. She was a papa’s girl who loved going fishing with Papa Dowdy.
Mrs. McWhorter was a member of King Memorial Baptist Church. She had lots of hobbiessewing, quilting, genealogy, and cooking. A lot of folks bragged on Mrs. McWhorter’s cooking. She had some good teachers like her grandmothers and others.
She is survived by her loving husband of almost 41 years, Larkin Anson McWhorter; sons, Micheal Brandon McWhorter and Madison Cade McWhorter of Hortense; her brother, James Cacey (Jennifer Lynn) Brown; and a granddaughter, Payton Michelle Harris McWhorter.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at Rinehart Chapel with Rev. Mike Yawn officiating.
Interment followed in the George Cemetery. Active pallbearers were family and friends.
Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup was in charge of arrangements.
