About a month ago, I got a call from an old friend who asked me if I would be willing to come take pictures at their 100-year Higginbotham Reunion in Hickox (1925-2025).
I met Linton Higginbotham and his wife, Martha, not very long after I began my photography about 20 or 2 5 years ago. I was out taking pictures of their old Higginbotham homeplace and we have been friends ever since.
Linton called me and said he was expecting a large crowd. They were having a fish fry and I was also invited. I told him that I don’t usually shoot people, but I would try my best to be there.
They had it this past weekend. I heard from someone at the event it may be about like trying to round up a herd of cats trying to get everyone in position in front of the old homeplace. I think it turned out great.
I was even given a book to bring home which has a lot of the history about the “Higginbotham Legacy.”
It says it all began with John Joseph Higginbotham (1695-1742) and the family is still going strong. They are scattered, but still have the yearly reunions.
I was interested in how the reunion has been held in Brantley County for all of these years and it appears that William Goodman Higginbotham married Anna Ansford “Annie” Wainright in 1890. The family has been holding reunions in Brantley County since 1925.
Some of the Higginbotham family who traveled the longest distance to the weekend event came all the way from Ft. Collins, Colorado.
I had to get their phone number and address because I do love Colorado and I never know when I might get another chance to get back out west to take pictures.
The weather held off until after pictures were taken. It was a big day as many games were played, the kids had a huge water slide to play on and about 100 of the Higginbotham family members can look forward to next year’s reunion and continuing on the family tradition for the next 100 years.
