CANEY BAY — Two teams trending in the same direction meet Friday when Brantley County travels to Vidalia in a battle of winless teams.
The Herons (0-3) look to end an overall losing streak of four games dating back to last season. Vidalia is out to stop a 10-game slide which started following last year’s 30-0 win in Caney Bay. The Indians’ losing streak is the third longest in school history. They lost 12 in a row from 1924 26 and 11 straight from 1940-41.
Brantley County will try to stop consecutive 0-4 starts for the fifth time (197374, 1976-77, 1988-89, 2000-01) in school history and 13th time overall.
The last time Vidalia opened 0-4 was over a halfcentury ago in 1974.
BCHS opened the 2025 campaign with a 32-12 home loss to Charlton County, suffered a 19-6 setback in Savannah to Windsor Forest, and fell 44-0 to visiting second-ranked Pierce County.
Vidalia dropped a 28-27 home loss to Long County in the season opener, fell 28-8 at Screven County and suffered a 22-18 loss at Tattnall County.

Friday night’s encounter is the eighth in a series dating back to 1998. The Indians have won the last five matchups scoring 30 points or more to take a 61 series lead.
“It really gets no easier, going to Vidalia,” said head coach David Shores. “They (Indians) are big and physical. Their style of offense is much like Pierce County. They want to run the ball right at you and impose their will. Our defensive guys will have to get back up for another physical game.
“Offensively, we have to execute better and become more sound in our blocking assignments. Vidalia has lost two pretty close games, so I’m sure they will be excited about an 03 team coming to town.
“We can use that mentality to our advantage if our players will buy into the game plan … which I believe they will.”
Vidalia utilize a groundoriented wing-T offensive scheme.
“We just have to be disciplined, read the keys, get off blocks and use our hands,” Shores stated. “The challenge is not getting caught by mis-direction plays and not having our eyes where they need to be.”
Defensively, Vidalia runs a 4-3 scheme.
“We’ve got to do a better job of throwing and catching the ball,” the coach said. “We’ve also got to get our running game going.”
Three players were recognized for the play against Pierce County.
Senior quarterback Kaden Hendrix was named the Offensive Player of the Game. Senior Mason Kicklighter (eight tackles) received the Defensive Player of the Game honor. Senior Peyton Perez earned Special Teams recogntion with four perfect snaps in punt formation.
