Big third quarter lifts Ware
Ware County wide receiver Ja’Mario Rice goes high to pull in a pass against the defense of Coffee’s Kadrien Wooten in the first half of Friday night’s non-region game in Memorial Stadium. The catch was one of six the senior receiver had for 94 yards and a touchdown in the No. 7 Class AAAA Gators 24-14 victory against the No. 8 Class AAAAA Trojans in the annual “Border War” of neighboring counties. Half of Rice’s receptions and the 38-yard touchdown came in a 21-point third quarter that keyed the win. In other games Friday night, Pierce County opened the season with a 20-7 win against Coosa Christian of Gadsden, Ala., while Brantley County fell to Windsor Forest, 19-7. More coverage on 1-2B, 8B.
