James Ralph Wogomon

WAYNESVILLE — James Ralph Wogomon, 67 of Waynesville, passed away Monday, August 18, 2025 at UF Health North in Jacksonville, Fla.

Born in Merced, Cal., Wogomon’s parents were Theodore Leroy Wogomon and Berna Jean Lishman. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Darrell Wogomon.

Wogomon served in the United States Navy and retired as chief after 24 years of service. He was a member of Wayn esville Missionary Baptist Church and loved his family, being a sailor, hunting, fishing and sitting on the porch with his dog.

Survivors include his wife, Cathy Wogomon of Waynesville; his son and daughter-in-law, Stephen H. Wogomon (Elaine) of Louisiana; two daughters and sons-in-law, Becky L. Taylor (Jeff) of Maryland and Bobbie Highsmith (Brian) of Waynesville; eight grandchildren, Asher (Nancy), Stephen, Theodore, Cheyenne (Tyler), Bentley, Joshua, Alexandria and Gant (Daryll); five great grandchildren, Jett, Eleanor, Silas, Bo and Tucker; a brother, Gene Wogomon of Texas; also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

A memorial service was held Friday, August 22, 2025 at Waynesville Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Wainright officiating.

Arrangements were with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
