Smash Brothers was a hit

The Smash Brothers tournament filled the NFC gym in Blackshear with a different kind of competition last Saturday. Approximately 50 people showed up to enjoy two different divisions of video game battles. One group featured competitors 12 and under, the other was age 16 and up, including adults.

There was also a costume contest for kids ages 5 to 9.

The 12 and under division winners were: first place-Jordan Carter, second place-Ren Lane and third place-David Hall. In the 16 to adult division winners were: first place-Andy Malcom, second place-Luke Bell and third place-Mason Campbell. Carter and Malcom duked it out in a final match for the grand champion title, pitting video game characters Kirby versus Yoshi. Malcom prevailed to become grand champion. Carter also won the People’s Choice award.

James Solomon won the raffle prize, a huge Godzilla keepsake toy provided by SAVD Toys. Costume contest winners were first place Abbigail Carter as Cinderella, second place-Zach Brook as Kevin the Minion and third place-Hannah Carter as the Little Mermaid.

It was also an opportunity for the new Pierce is Prepared initiative to distribute free hurricane preparedness starter packs to attendees.
