Pierce Middle softballers take down both Bacon Middle, Toombs Middle

Pierce County Middle School captured a pair of five-inning scrimmages in a final tuneup before the 2025 season.

The Lady Bears, who went 8-3 in three pre-season tournaments, rallied from a two-run deficit Tuesday, August 12 to beat homestanding Bacon County Middle School 9-3 in a five-inning scrimmage.

PCHS knocked off visiting Toombs County Middle School 7-4 in five innings Thursday, August 14.

Pierce Middle hosted Bethune Middle School Monday, August 18 and traveled to Brantley County Middle School Thursday, August 21. Long County Middle School visits Monday, August 25 to conclude the first month of the season.

ALMA — Pierce Middle used a six-run third inning to take the lead for good en route to beating the Lady Red Raiders.

BCMS scored twice in the first inning to take a quick 2-0 lead before the first out was recorded.

The Lady Bears sliced the deficit in half in the second loading the bases on consecutive one-out errors on balls hit by Skylar Whitaker and Korlee Harrelson (1-for-3) and a walk to Caitlynn Hannant. Haley Morgan’s (1-for-2) ensuing fielder’s choice ground out scored Whitaker.

PCMS strung together six hits during the six-run third in opening up a 7-2 lead. London Sweet (1-for-3) reached on a leadoff bunt single and raced to third on Sadie Warren’s (1-for-4) double.

Ryleigh Taylor (2-for-3) followed with a two-run double give Pierce Middle the lead for good a 3-2. Cadence Coldren (2for-4) reached on a single. Both scored on Harrelson’s line drive single to left extending the margin to 5-2.

Harrelson’s base hit was followed by a four-pitch walk to Hinnant. The pair executed a double steal with Harrelson scoring and Morgan following with a runscoring single driving home the final run of the inning for a 7-2 lead.

PCMS added two final runs in the fourth with Warren scoring on Taylor’s double and eventually scoring on Harrelson’s one-out grounder to open up a 9-2 advantage.

Bacon Middle dented the plate with a run in the bottom of the fifth for the final margin.

BEARVILLE — PCMS used a five-run third inning to take control of its matchup with Toombs Middle.

The Lady Bears spotted the visitors a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a sacrifice fly with Sweet (5 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 1 K, 5 BB) in the circle.

Pierce Middle followed with five runs in the bottom of the frame. Warren (2-for-3) ripped a one-out, run-scoring triple plating Sweet (1-for-3).

The Lady Bears took the lead for good two pitches later on a double by Coldren (1-for-2) and extended the margin to 3-1 on a Taylor (1-for-3) run-scoring single A run-scoring groundout with the bases loaded by Miranda Howard was followed by a passed ball for the final run and a four-run advantage at 51.

The Lady Bears added two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Warren followed Sweet’s one-out single and thefts of second and third with a triple. Warren raced home on a wild pitch pushing the lead to 7-1.

Toombs Middle scored three times in the fifth to tighten the score to 7-4.
