INGLEWOOD, Calif. — Stetson Bennett IV threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Tru Edwards with five seconds remaining, lifting the Los Angeles Rams to a 23-22 preseason win Saturday night over the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium.

The second-year quarterback shook off a turnover the Chargers cashed in engineering a composed final drive, highlighted by a 40-yard leaping catch from Brennan Presley with 11 seconds left that set up the winning score.

“It was pretty cool, I’m not gonna lie, because I was tired out there,” Bennett said after the lastsecond win. “That was a hard-fought one, and I think everybody out there at the end, defense getting us the ball back, it was pretty sweet.”

Bennett finished 28-of-40 for 324 yards, three touchdowns and the one interception in a performance that underscored his growth in Sean McVay’s system. His biggest completion was a 38-yard bomb to Mario Williams that showed pinpoint accuracy.

The Rams had just 1:28 to get a drive together to win the game after falling behind 22-16. Bennett then proceeded to convert a 4th-and-3 and a 4thand- 10 before the dagger.

With 10 seconds remaining, Bennett fired the touchdown pass to Edwards to take a 23-22 lead. The Chargers could only muster one more 9yard play by the buzzer.

Bennett has had an outstanding preseason and training camp. Bennett leads the NFL in several different key passing statistics this preseason Through the Rams’ (20) first two preseason games, Bennett has completed 44-of-64 passes for 512 yards and five touchdowns against two interceptions leading the league in all four categories.

He has gotten an overwhelming majority of Los Angeles' snaps at quarterback. Bennett has looked poised and comfortable in the Rams’ offensive scheme that is averaging 27 points per game.

He looks like a lock to at least make Los Angeles' practice squad.
